What files you get when a logo is finished

SVG, PDF, PNG, horizontal, stacked, for light and dark backgrounds. What each one is and where to use it, without the panic.

The logo’s approved, we’ve celebrated, and then a folder full of files arrives. Before you panic, let’s open it together, with a real example: the handoff for raptodia.

Three formats, three jobs

.svg
Zoomed-in SVG: the stitches stay sharp
Scales as big as you like, without blurring. For the site, for a huge sign, for your developer.
.png
Zoomed-in PNG: the stitches break into pixels
For everyday use: social, presentations, email. It has a transparent background, but blow it up too much and it pixelates (see the zoom).
.pdf
The stacked raptodia logo with printer's crop marks
For the printer. Cards, labels, packaging: anything printed goes out as a PDF.

Six layouts, for every space

A logo doesn’t always live in the same shape. A wide sign needs a different layout from a round avatar.

Horizontal raptodia logo
Horizontalsite header, email signature, wide sign
Stacked raptodia logo
Stackedcard, packaging, covers
The raptodia mark on its own
Mark onlyavatar, favicon, clothing label
The name raptodia on its own
Name onlywhen the mark is already somewhere nearby
The name with the slogan Beware, be wear
Name + sloganpresentations, posters, shop window
The slogan Beware, be wear on its own
Slogan onlytote bags, social, small details

Seven colours, for every background

Every layout comes in versions for light and dark backgrounds, in black and in white, so it reads everywhere.

49versions for raptodia: seven layouts (including one just for social) in seven colours. Each one in SVG, PDF and PNG. Yes, that’s a lot of files. Yes, you’ll need every one of them at some point.

save this

Keep a “brand” folder in the cloud and share it with anyone you work with. It’ll save you a lot of “could you resend the logo in a higher resolution?”
